Coffin Up the Dead Treats
My sister, Linda, loves Halloween and years ago she purchased a coffin pan (similar to a mini loaf pan, but in the shape of mini coffins). We decided to make some chocolate coffin desserts for Halloween, but had difficulty getting some of them out of the pan. Some of the coffins were falling apart and didn’t even resemble a coffin! (NOTE: For these intricate pans, we found the best non-stick spray is from William Sonoma®!) In order to cover up our mishap, we grabbed some white chocolate skeletons that she also made and placed them on top with a little icing to secure them in place. And just like magic, we created our Coffin up the Dead treats. Don’t you just love it when things turn out better than you planned? Perhaps the name alone will compel you to make some and bring to your next Halloween event.
1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 can of dark chocolate icing
Coffin baking pan *
White Chocolate Skeletons
1-2 bags white chocolate candy melts
Skeleton shaped chocolate candy mold *
*Found online or at Michael’s® during Halloween time. If you are unable to locate, use a mini loaf pan or a regular baking pan and cut into coffin-like shapes.
Spray coffin baking pan with non-stick spray (see note above). Prepare chocolate cake according to the package and pour batter into each coffin. Bake and place aside to cool.
Melt white chocolate candy and pour into skeleton mold. Freeze until hard.
Remove cake coffins from the pan. Spread dark chocolate icing (melt slightly so it spreads easily) and place a white chocolate skeleton on top of the icing.
