How to Create a Beautiful Easy Cabbage Vase
Next time you purchase a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store, why not dress them up and make them a topic of conversation at your next gathering! Here is an easy way to create a beautiful cabbage vase.
Materials
1 small vase or container
1 red cabbage
Assorted flowers & greenery
1 rubber band
Ribbon
Floral shears
Scissors
Instructions
Take the red cabbage and carefully pull the outer leaves off. Don’t worry if the leaves tear, however, try to keep the pieces as large as possible. Position a few large pieces around the vase, paying attention to the curve of the cabbage, so it matches the curve of the vase. Secure with a rubber band. Continue tucking various size cabbage pieces under the rubber band until the entire vase is covered. Once covered, tear any excess leaves from above the vase rim. For a more natural look, don’t tear the edges in a straight line or trim too close to the rim. You want to keep the vase hidden from sight.
Add water to your vase. Using floral shears, cut greenery and floral stems accordingly. You’ll want to keep your floral arrangement in proportion to the size of your vase and cabbage. A general rule of thumb is to keep the overall floral arrangement the height of 1 – 1 ½ times the size of your vase. For example, if your vase is 5” in height, then your arrangement should be about 10” – 12” in height, but no more than 13” in height at the tallest point. You’ll also want to vary the size of your greenery and floral stems to give a full balanced look.
Once your floral arrangement is complete, cut your ribbon long enough, so you can wrap it around the cabbage, covering the rubber band, and tie into a bow. Trim the ends. Place on a table and enjoy!
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, Thou are very great;
Thou are clothed with splendor and majesty. Ps. 104:1
