Home Decorating Ideas for a Woodlands Christmas
This holiday season, here are some home decorating ideas to incorporate simple elements of nature into your home to create a beautiful Woodlands Christmas.
An Evergreen Entrance
An inviting entrance begins with a welcoming door wreath composed of green cushion moss that will thrive throughout the season. Living in Southern California we’re blessed with beautiful weather year round. We have the pleasure of having a bountiful array of evergreens, texture, color and foliage in our winter landscape.
Create a scent-sational atmosphere for guests as you welcome them inside. Diffusing orange and cinnamon bark oil will create an aromatic fragrance. They say that the scent of smell is the most powerful of the five scenes.
Decorate Poinsettia plants using natural material sack cloth and wrapping the pot with plaid ribbon, string or twine. Take a wicker or woven basket and fill with pine cones and place a string of lights inside and add a festive bow.
Arrange freshly cut pine branches on the fireplace mantel and intertwine plaid ribbon with coordinating colored ornaments. Place votive candles to create an element of low lighting and don’t forget to hang your stockings with care!
Set the table using wooden tree platters as charges. Take burlap napkins, tie silverware using twine and place a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and place at each setting. For the centerpiece use a country lantern, lay pinecones and holly down the middle and place birch candles to set the glow for the evening.
Treat your guest to homemade mulled wine with cinnamon sticks, fresh cranberries, orange & lime slices with a hint of apple cider.
Carry on the woodland theme with accents of wooden trees, ski’s or a sleigh. Place pillows with holiday sayings or a scenic landscape of trees. Have a little fun with stuffed animals such as reindeers, a moose, bear or a cute little squirrel.
Once you have your freshly-cut Christmas tree, stack grapevine wreaths on top of one another from large to small to create a natural tree skirt. Today, you can find wicker Christmas tree collars that give a similar look. Embellish with holly berries, poinsettia flowers, ribbon and homemade ornaments.
Pile on the Plaid
Wrap gifts with brown or plaid paper, an animal prints such as a moose, bear, deer, etc. Tie with plaid ribbon or twine and add a touch of holly berries, twigs and silver jingle balls.
Be sure to present your guests with a mémorable, keepsake gift of their evening. A handmade ornament, a birched candle, sachet of dried flower potpourri, bath salts or a homemade dessert.
Leaving an impression on your guests is not only a lovely touch, it reminds them of a wonderful evening shared with friends!
Winter takes place outside, but you can enjoy a picturesque Woodland’s Christmas from the inside of your home.
