Celebrate Independence Day with a 1776 inspired table.
It was the year America became a nation! For those of us who call this place home, we are truly grateful to our Founding Fathers who risked so much for this country, which at the time, was still taking shape. So let’s revisit 1776 and be grateful for all that we have because of what these brave men (and the women who supported them) did to bring America to life.
There were 56 signers on the Declaration of Independence document. The most popular signers were John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams and Benjamin Rush. The signers were delegates from Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia.
Who are our founding fathers? According to Richard Morris (historian) our founding fathers were John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Washington.
“Tis done. We have become a nation.” said Benjamin Rush.
We kept our tablescape very simple to reflect the times. Our centerpiece and candle holders were purchased at Hobby Lobby. We stained, then stenciled 1776 onto the bucket. We purchase fabric from Beverly’s Fabric and created a table runner. Our cream plates were from Home Goods and on top of each one, we placed a simple red napkin tied with twine. We took some wheat and placed a single stem on each napkin. The mule mugs were from Walmart. The stars were purchased years ago. And our cute little Liberty Bell we’ve had in our family since we were very young.
The real Liberty Bell weighs 2080 pounds, is 3 feet tall and 12 feet around the circumference. It cracked the first time it rang!
