Welcome Summer with a Trip to Avila Valley Barn

I recently took a trip up the coast of California and stopped at Avila Valley Barn in San Luis Obispo.  I discovered this gem a few years back and couldn’t wait to check it out again.  It has become a favorite spot for locals and tourists to pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables, a gourmet deli sandwich, hot corn on the cob, a freshly made fruit pie, or an ice cream treat to cool off in the warm summer months.

In 1985, the family set up a small table along Avila Beach Drive to sell their fresh produce.  It was a huge hit and they expanded the following year.  Eventually, they built a barn to store their home grown fruits and vegetables.  Since then, they’ve added a country bakery, gourmet gifts, and most recently, a deli.  They offer pony rides for the kids and even have a variety of farm animals for the little ones to feed.

And then rock out!

Hello summer

And then, there were the rocking chairs!  As the kids ran around, the adults took a nap, or relaxed and ate their ice cream cones.

For some, that’s what summer is all about!
