A Trip to Magnolia Market & Silos

If you love HGTV, there’s a very good chance you’re familiar with the show Fixer Upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines.  In fact, you may be a huge fan of the show!  My sister, Linda, loves the program and tapes it regularly, so she can watch it.  It’s not the only show she watches on HGTV, but it is her favorite!  She loves how they transform a rundown home into something truly extraordinary.  She’s very much of an interior designer gal.  Linda can walk into a house that’s been trashed (literally) and see potential.  Whereas I see a dirty, deprived home that’s falling apart and I can’t wait to leave!  That’s partly because I am more of an interior decorator.  I need the basic elements in place before my creative juices start to kick in.

Recently, we were in Texas for a conference and Linda wanted to drive to Waco to see the Magnolia Market & Silos.  If you’re not familiar with the show Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna purchased a piece of property where two large silos were located and transformed it into a beautiful gathering place with a store, bakery, garden area, picnic grounds, and a large stage for outdoor concerts.  They also have various food trucks onsite to feed the hungry crowds.

When we first arrived in Waco it was late and we were hungry.  The hotel recommended an Italian restaurant downtown, which was relatively close to where we were staying.  After dinner, as we were making our way back to the freeway, we saw the silos all lit up.  They were gorgeous and truly a site to see!

Silos at night.

In the morning, we drove back down to the Magnolia Market & Silos and parked a few blocks away.  They have a free trolley that takes visitors around the downtown area, but we decided to walk.  We looked for the silos and walked toward them.  You can’t miss them, they are humongous!

When we arrived, we couldn’t help but notice how immaculate the grounds were.  The gardens were absolutely beautiful and bursting with pumpkins.

Our first stop was the Magnolia Market where they sell household items, as well as products from their brand.  Before entering the store, we were greeted by this beautiful garden box.  It was so lovely, I had to take a picture of it.

While everyone was busy shopping (yes, we were too), I couldn’t help but look up.  They had some very interesting décor items hanging from the ceiling.  At one point, I noticed several antique kitchen gadgets hanging from above.  Each one beautifully embroidered.  How clever, I thought!  You don’t see that at the big commercial stores.

After lunch and a walk around the property, it was time to finish our day with something sweet from the bakery.  The line was a little long, but well worth the wait.

We split a lemon lavender cupcake and ordered two cookies for later, which we ended up eating another day.  The cookie was my favorite, since I’m not a big fan of cupcakes.  However, they are all the rage these days and inspired this cute saying.

The Silo Baking Company sells a variety of cupcakes.  They make 5,000 cupcakes each week day and 8,000 cupcakes on Saturday!  Yes, we asked.

This fall, we hope you find the time to be grateful for all that you have – family, friends, health, work and most importantly faith!
